Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has brought some new features to the racing genre, and the next Mario Kart should be wise if you need to take note.
It’s been years since a new Mario Kart game hit the market, and even longer since the series brought new mechanics. Mario Kart 8 is a great entry, especially since it makes its way to the Switch and comes with all the DLC, but it doesn’t really add anything new to the series. It’s time for something new and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has some unique gameplay mechanics that will be welcome in Mario Kart and future games, the same way some items or the battle mode has become the main factor. At the very least, it would be nice to see some modes of this Sonic game in the new Mario Kart.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has been released on multiple platforms, including the Wii U, Nintendo DS, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One & 360, and even PC. It’s a pretty popular racing game that not only features Sonic characters, but also other main Sega characters and some exclusive features, depending on the platform it’s being played on. The game illustrates what kind of racing experience the new Mario Kart can be by adding new features and branching out a bit.
Mario Kart 8 features several characters from other Nintendo franchises like Link from The Legend of Zelda and the Animal Crossing resident, as well as songs to go with them. However, they were originally added as DLC rather than included in the initial release. There are also some nice, simple customizations involving karts, gliders, and tires. It’s also not just aesthetics – they drive differently and provide different stats that harder players can max out to play online and in competitions better and get best possible time. Some characters even have their own customization options for colors, which is a nicer, smaller addition. However, it’s been so long since there’s been a new game that the next title in the series will need a fresh coat of paint to get people interested.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has some great gameplay for Mario Kart to borrow from which would be a perfect fit. One of the biggest features is the campaign mode of this Sonic racing game and how it is structured. Instead of a cup or a generic set of races to complete, it features a world and path system, similar to Super Mario Bros 3. However, instead of levels, each stop is a race. or challenging and also have branching paths. Races and challenges must be completed to receive stars, a collectible needed to move forward or unlock other paths. The challenges encountered were not just typical time trials or one-on-one races as players would expect. Some are quite challenging, such as collecting a certain number of rounds in a short time or keeping a drift for a certain amount of time. It offers a wide range of challenges and keeps the game from being just about races.
